Memorial Weekend Home Run Derby ‘09

Get ready people, it’s going to be a good weekend. For starters,  I would like to formally announce

“THE 1st ANNUAL COED LAKE SAM RAYBURN MEMORIAL WEEKEND HOME RUN DERBY CONTEST FOR PEOPLE WHO SWING FOR THE FENCES AND ENJOY WEEKENDS”

There are quite  a few 2-person teams signed up for the event considering there is a $5,000 cash prize for the 2nd place team and the grand prize winner gets an all expenses paid month-long vacation to Bora Bora. Just a little something we thought we would throw in there to make things interesting.

There is still time to sign up and if you are a feeling intimidated, don’t be. I have put together a little scouting report of the current entries. Here goes:

  • David and Morgan Hinds - no threat here. If sweating is involved and the hair/makeup/guyliner gets messed up….these two are out like hair follicles on Shaun Seago’s head.
  • Tyler and Ashley Bearden - these two have about as much game as Rooks Richard at a nightclub. Expect some hamstrings to be pulled with this team even with no running involved.
  • Darren and Noemi Poutra - city meets country with this duo. They may not be able to play since the game will be on grass and not concrete
  • Tommy Jack and Gabrielle Thompson - you can count on them having the newest equipment and latest technology. It won’t help if you can’t hit the ball.
  • Mike and Gwen Poutra - high school harry and his wife. She is the talent on the team and that speaks volumes.
  • Brad and Carlis Roy - also known as the Bridge City Bayou Monkeys. They might just be the sleepers in this tourney.
  • Blake and Lauren Poutra - shouldn’t even be allowed in the tournament. Dead ringers. Bora Bora or bust.
  • Mike and Nikki Albanese - these two newlyweds might get in their first wedded spat from the poor performance they are about to give.
  • Amber and Rons Hinds-Williams - no problem. They can’t grasp the concept of “over the fence” and not “build a fence”.
  • Chewy and Lisa Mathews - don’t stand a chance. Chews hasn’t picked up a bat since little league. That includes the four years he was DH’ed for in high school.
  • Brian and Mandy Mazzola - sorry, we aren’t swinging rackets. Leave your tennis skirt at home Big El.

Some of you may not have realized you were signed up for this glorious event. Well…now you know. The game will be held at La Posada on Sunday morning before lunch. Every team that plays will receive complimentary matching his/hers diamond tennis bracelets courtesy of Mathews Jewelers. God Bless America!
